Established in 1994, Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of heritage and culture. Showcasing places and spaces of all styles and sizes, the festival is part of the Council of Europe’s family of European Heritage Days, and is intended to bring people together through culture, heritage and art. England’s festival is thriving - we are thrilled to have welcomed 3 million visitors to 5,200 events in 2016, created through the participation and support of over 40,000 volunteers.

In the very centre of London, our Grosvenor Gardens office is one of our consultancy offices for the London and South East region. With immediate access to central London via Victoria Station, you'll work alongside regional and national colleagues, supporting the properties within the region.

About the role

This role is pivotal to ensuring the ongoing success of the festival by developing Heritage Open Days Volunteers’ skills in creating and delivering enjoyable on-the-ground experiences for all festival visitors. The VE Officer devises and delivers a range of workshops, networking events and seminars for Heritage Open Days Organisers and leads a team of social media volunteers. The role is also focused on developing the profile of the programme through commissioning an appropriate marketing campaign– both print and digital. Supporting our annual evaluation is a crucial part of this role, gathering and disseminating feedback and supporting local organisers to carry out their own evaluation. Working closely with the Heritage Open Days Media Manager, the VE officer further supports PR and press needs, sourcing spokespeople, stories, anecdotes, visuals.

We have exciting plans for the future and a vision to involve more people than ever in the development of this much-loved festival - there’s never been a better time to join the national team and involve the nation’s communities in celebrating and sharing the places that matter to them.
